Origami Angle Trisection: A Geometric Construction with Folds

Έστω ότι το OW είναι μια πλευρά ενός ορθογώνιου φύλλου χαρτιού και ότι η πτυχή OZ σχηματίζει τη γωνία ∠WOZ που θέλουμε να τριχοτομήσουμε. Δημιουργούμε δύο ίσα και παράλληλα διπλώματα AX και BY, όπως φαίνεται στο σχήμα.

Trisecting an Angle Using Origami

Let OW be one side of a rectangular sheet of paper, and let the fold OZ form the angle ∠WOZ which we wish to trisect. Make two equally spaced folds AX and BY parallel to OW, as shown in the diagram.

Fold the corner O back into the page so that it lands on the line AX at the point C, while simultaneously the point B lands on the fold OZ at a point D.

Prove that the angle ∠WOC is exactly one third of ∠WOZ.
